about

This song was written and recorded in the early "90s featuring the great Annie Sutton on vocals. I feel so privileged to have worked with her. The genesis of the song was from something a friend told me that his father had said to him. "Send a fool into the world and then you cry for him." From that, I wrote this song.

lyrics

Verse I
Send a fool into the world
And then you cry for him
A tear, tender tear
To keep him on way
Put a crown upon his head
A bed to lay upon
Glory, simple glory
To guide him on his path
Turn a child into a man
And then you weep for him
A bound, common bond
To bind his heart and soul
Take a look at all that’s here
And hope to learn from it
A fear, reckless fear
To keep the night away

Chorus
From father to son
You know it by name
A soul journey
Like a river that flows
To the edge of your mind
A life’s story
A silence so strong
Where your heart won’t go
A storm warning
You see it so clear
For every son of a son
Come on child
Take a soul journey

Verse II
Light a candle in the dark
So he can find a way
A breath, gentle breath
To keep his dreams alive
Take a look into his world
It’s all he has for now
A thought, precious thought
To chase his fears away
Put his heart upon his sleeve
So he can feel the pain
Notion, bad notion
To keep his mind at ease
Turn a man into a child
And then you cheer for him
Freedom, sweet freedom
To keep him safe and warm
